Nissan Recalls Over 480,000 Cars Due to Engine Problems

July 4, 2025 – USA:
This is happening because of a problem with the engine that could cause the car to stop working while you’re driving. This could be very risky for drivers and passengers.

The cars that have this problem were made between 2019 and 2024. They include some well-known models like the Nissan Rogue, Nissan Altima, and Infiniti QX50 and QX55.

Why Are These Cars Being Recalled ?

The engine used in these cars is called a VC-Turbo engine, which stands for Variable Compression Turbo. This engine is designed to give both strong performance and good fuel efficiency. It can change how it works depending on whether you need more power or want to save fuel.

However, Nissan found that some of these engines have a defect. Inside the engine, there are small parts called **bearings** that help the engine move smoothly. In these cars, the bearings can wear out too early. When this happens, metal pieces can fall off and mix with the engine oil. This makes the engine run poorly, make loud noises, or even stop completely.

What Signs Should Drivers Look For ?

If you own one of the affected cars, here are some warning signs you might notice:

* The car shakes or runs roughly
* Warning lights come on in the dashboard
* The engine turns off while driving

These are serious signs and should not be ignored.

Which Cars Are Included in the Recall.

Nissan says these models are part of the recall:

Nissan Rogue (model years 2021 to 2024)
Nissan Altima (2019 to 2020)
Infiniti QX50 (2019 to 2022)
Infiniti QX55 (2022)

These cars have either a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine.

How Many Cars Are Affected ?

* In the United States, about 443,899vehicles are included in the recall.
* In Canada, about 37,837 vehicles are affected.

That brings the total to more than 481,000 cars being recalled in North America.

What Will Nissan Do to Fix the Problem?

Nissan will begin sending letters to car owners starting in July 2025, and most owners should receive them by August.

Once you receive the letter, you can take your car to a Nissan or Infiniti dealership** for a free inspection and repair.

Here’s what the dealers will do:

1 )If they find debris, they will repair or replace the entire engine for free.
2 ) If there is no debris, they will still take action:

   * For 1.5-liter engines: They will change the oil, install a new gasket, and update the engine’s software.
   * For 2.0-liter engines: They will simply change the engine oil.

All of these services will be provided free of charge, even if your car is out of warranty.

What Should You Do Now?

If you own one of these cars:

* Watch out for any unusual engine noise or dashboard warning lights.
* Don’t wait. Visit your dealer if you notice any problems.
* Check your mail for a recall notice from Nissan.
* After you receive the notice, book a service appointment.

Nissan says that most engines will show warning signs before failing completely. So it’s important to act early and not ignore small problems.

What Is Special About the VC-Turbo Engine?

Nissan’s VC-Turbo engine is different from regular engines. It changes how it works depending on how you’re driving. It gives more power when you need speed and saves fuel when you’re driving slowly.

This was a new technology for Nissan. While it’s a smart idea, it also came with new risks. The current engine problem is one of those risks, and now the company is trying to fix it.

How Did the Problem Come to Light?

In late 2023, some car owners started reporting engine trouble. After looking into the issue, the U.S.  By July 2025, Nissan confirmed the issue and announced the official recall.

Why This Matters

1. Safety First: A broken engine can be dangerous, especially if it shuts off while driving.
2. Trust Issues: Customers may lose trust in Nissan if problems like this keep happening.
3. Big Costs: Fixing or replacing thousands of engines will be expensive, but Nissan says it will cover all the costs.

Final Message for Car Owners

If you drive a Nissan Rogue, Altima,or Infiniti QX50/QX55 made between 2019 and 2024, pay attention. You might be affected by this recall.

If your car shows signs like strange sounds or warning lights, take it to a dealer immediately. And when you get your recall letter, don’t delay  get your car checked and fixed as soon as possible.

Nissan is trying to make things right by fixing the issue for free. Your safety is important, so act quickly and stay informed.
